We felt we could not recommend Vista when it came out due to compatability and networking issues.
However, we have to say we are very impressed by Windows 7.
Having used it and worked it hard, it does everything that XP does, but faster.
It uses less resources than Vista and is designed around the user, giving you and excellent resource to improve the speed of your computing experience.
All the software we use everyday works on first installation, but even if you have software that will only work with XP,
this is not a problem with Windows 7's virtual XP mode.
All in all we thoroughly recommend Windows 7

Running Vista you can use an Upgrade Version
It can be installed over your existing version of Vista.
Running XP you will need the full version retail pack.
XP and all your software will need to be backed up.
Windows 7 will wipe your drive and perform a 'clean' installation.
Your programs and documents,photos,music and emails etc will then need to be re-installed.
